Thanksgiving Shopping - A Boon or a Bane
I always wish some
nights last forever..! specially festive nights..! it brings people together,
needless to mention the food, fun and Joy shared.. So as year comes to an end,
my festive spirit kicks in..! Oct being
so special to us, as it starts with our anniversary followed by biggest Festive
of our Life (little S’s Birthday).. We
are usually those people who love to plan ahead. So our Sep’s are filled with party planning
sheets. So that ‘S’ can have the day as she wants. Slowly as the hangover of
S’s birthday diwndles, halloween is right across the corner.
We are usually excited
about halloween. We got to dressup and pretend to be someone else and roam
around the streets singing and dancing, occasionally fetching candies and be
ourselves..! Little S usually decides what she wants to be, and changes every
other day.. Like today she wants to be cinderella, tomorrow it’s a bunny, the
following would be a witch..! I usually cant keep up with what she wants and
take the matters in my own hand.! Once we are all done with our little scary
pumpkins its time for thanksgiving..
Whats this all about ??
Thanksgiving is a harvest festival of Canada & US. The event that Americans commonly call the
"First Thanksgiving" was celebrated by the Pilgrims after
their first harvest in the New World in
October 1621. This feast lasts for three days Thanking God for blessings. The
poor are often provided with food at Thanksgiving time. Most communities have
annual food drives that collect non-perishable
packaged and canned foods, and corporations sponsor charitable distributions of
staple foods and Thanksgiving dinners.
But for the past couple
of years, I have seen a different version of Thanksgiving. So as thanksgiving
arrives, people are busy making a list of items to be purchased. They get ready
for the door buster deals. Waiting in the long queues and fighting with fellow
people to acquire something which can be done in a proper civil manner too. My
First Thanksgiving was hilarious (yeah yeah, iam talking about 2008). As a
newbie I had no idea what thanksgiving was all about. So out we went roaming
around just to see whats the deal about this holiday season. Though we hadn’t
purchased anything, but we saw crowd everywhere. We had fun walking all night with
strangers, drinking coco, occasionally watching brawls over petty things..
Cut Two, 2012..!! This
time I really wanted to buy something (not much though).. So I made a small
list of around 5 to 6 items and left out with my hubby..! one thing I had noticed
now was that, people are no more civilized. It was a rampage. The retailers had
taken all precautions to make sure no one was hurt. Additional Cops, Security
guards.. I felt as if iam entering into a war zone. I had no idea it was going
to be such a horrid experience. People had no clue what they want, still their
carts were filled with everything available in the stores. Sometimes they even
pick the lot leaving empty racks for others. That day I swore not to go out
ever again on the day of thanksgiving.
Cut Three, 2017..!!!
Over the 5 years I had realized that shopping can be done online and I do it
sipping a cup of coco at home. I enjoy the fun filled evening with friends,
having scrumptious food and fun filled games. Destiny plays its charisma again and
I landed this year into the pit of thanksgiving shopping. One of my best buddy
wanted to go out for thanksgiving shopping. This was her first. So I didn’t
want to disappoint her. So off we left with few others. Somewhere along my mind
there was a dwindling thought that I might not encounter as many people as
before (all thanks to online shopping and pre -thanksgiving sales, black Friday
& cyber Monday). But to my surprise my ordeal five years ago was much
better than what I had this year.
Oh my Goodness, I have
come across some whacky nuts, who had no clue why they were dragging their
carts all over the store. Few others were rampaging over the racks and filling
their carts with every size of pajamas. I can understand electronics, but I
cant understand why a semi petite lady who seems to be sized M, sweeping the
racks for every possible size from XS, S to XXL.. Lol.. it was hilarious for
me.
My buddy V (who was
shopping for the first time) was awestruck with the amount of enthusiasm people
carry over thanksgiving, leaving her empty handed and returning back with
nothing from every store she visited.
Think about it..! Do you
need it.. Is it helpful.. Are u planning to gift it to someone.. Don't be a fool
and drag every possible shit from the floor. Mark my words, these whackos
are the ones who will be standing next day in the return section.
Be Sensible enough and
think before you u buy..!
